Trip Type: Fly Fishing: Good to Great Trip Date: Sat, Oct 12, 2019 Flow: 35 cfs
of the Day: Great day up at Espy Ranch working on nymphing and streamer fishing.
I met Daniel up at Espy ranch on a brisk Saturday morning for Angling University. The study today was to go over how to effectively nymph and streamer fish. Daniel already has all the basics down to these methods but today was more about fine tuning and him taking charge. Reading water is what it all comes down to and by the end of the day, we were on the same page. Low flows can make nymphing a little tougher but after finding some good pocket water, we were able to find some good drifts. After a quick break and some lunch, we headed back out for the afternoon and worked on swinging streamers. I was excited to teach him this method because it can be a very effective way to entice some larger fish in the river. We were able to get a beautiful 18" rainbow to the net! It was great to help Daniel fine tune his skills and see the results! Great day man!
The fishing is good. Clear skies and 36-39 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
